White Window Surrounds on Red Brick — Ooltewah, TN

Red brick does most of the work on this Ooltewah home, so the trim has to be sharp. Our exterior painting here focused on the white details: the textured window surrounds with their keystones, the arched upper windows, sills, gable ends, soffits, fascia and the portico columns at the front entry.

Because the surrounds butt directly into brick, we masked every edge with tape before painting, so no white wanders into the mortar joints. Sills were rolled in place, with worn, chalky spots filled in until the finish was even. The front porch steps were covered in plastic and the entry was kept usable, seasonal planters and all, while ladders moved around the house. From the street, the result is a clean, continuous white outline around every window.
